Home Slice on South Congress is a South Austin institution that helped put this neighborhood's food scene on the map back in 2005. It spans two spaces right next door to each other, the main full-service sit-down restaurant and "More Home Slice," their grab-and-go slice window, and we checked out both. The vibe is buzzing and energetic. They have great outdoor seating that is packed with people. As for the pizza itself, it was pretty good! It has a distinct New York style flare with a crisp, foldable crust. If you are looking for top-tier NY-style pizza, outdoor patio energy, and a South Congress experience, Home Slice is definitely worth stopping by.

The pizza was honestly a little worse than I remembered a few years ago. It could also be because of the differences in location, but I think the Hyde Park location might be better. The place is really cute so still definitely worth a visit. The pizza wasn't as big as I remembered and the sauce felt a little lighter this time around. The margarita slice was okay, very mild flavors - easy to eat but also nothing special. The pepperoni with cherry peppers was actually pretty good. Good crust, good flavor from the peppers, decent pepperoni quality. The slice has a good balance of texture, taste, crispiness and thickness, but again nothing too insane about this slice but it's solid!

Home Slice Pizza on South Congress is an Austin classic for a reason. It’s one of those places you can always count on for a great meal and a fun atmosphere. Yes, there’s usually a line, but don’t let that scare you. Grab a drink in the back patio while you wait—the bartender there is incredibly friendly, and the entire staff does a great job keeping the experience enjoyable from start to finish. The pizza is consistently delicious. Is it the best pizza you’ll ever have? Maybe not. But it’s fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a classic neighborhood pizzeria. It’s one of those places you’ll happily come back to again and again. Now, let’s talk about the real star of the menu: the Italian Sub. In my opinion, it’s the best Italian sandwich in Austin. It’s absolutely massive—we were a group of four, had it cut into four pieces, and each of us got a generous portion. We also ordered pizza, but honestly, that sandwich completely stole the show. This place exceeded our expectations by far! Easily one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. The food was amazing, and the service was even better. Our server, Helen, was an absolute sweetheart. She wrapped our leftover pizza slice in aluminum foil shaped like a swan, and my daughter absolutely loved it! They even gave the kids some dough to play with while we waited, which was such a thoughtful touch. Between the delicious food, outstanding service, and family-friendly atmosphere, this was a 10/10 experience. We can’t wait to come back!

THE most perfect crust I have ever had. Seriously! Crispy but not too thin nor too thick - just right - perfect! We tried the pepperoni and the margarita but pepperoni was our favorite. Would definitely come again. We needed a snack to hold us over before dinner.
